Looks: Breeding adults are glossy black with white on head, neck, and a white patch on flanks visible during flight. A bright yellow gular patch visible in breeding adults. Non-breeding birds have white cheeks and throat patch. Lacks white head plums and thigh patch. Sexes alike. Lives: Tanks, reservoirs, lakes, rivers.
