Looks: In non breeding both sexes are dark brown above. buffy brown below with fine dark bars. Breeding male mainly black with bright red horn above crown, and base of upper mandible with yellow bill. Reddish legs and eyes. Upperparts have grey and buff fringes. Lives: Marshes, flooded paddyfields, ponds.
