Looks: Sexes alike. Breeding birds have dark brown head and neck with chestnut wash. A yellow patch at the base of bill. Paler upper parts. Non breeding and juvenile birds have buffy cheek, neck and under parts. Habitat: Open water, Lakes, Ponds.
പ്രജനനകാലത്ത് ഇവയുടെ തലയും കഴുത്തും ഇരുണ്ട കാപ്പിനിറത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടും. കഴുത്തിൽ ചെമ്പൻ നിറവും കൊക്കിന്റെ കടഭാഗത്ത് മഞ്ഞനിറത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു പാടും കാണാം. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്കും പ്രജനനേതരകാലത്ത് വളർച്ചയെത്തിയവയ്ക്കും കവിളും കഴുത്തും അടിഭാഗവും മങ്ങിയ മഞ്ഞനിറത്തിലാണ്. ആൺപെൺ വ്യത്യാസമില്ല. കുളങ്ങളിലും തടാകങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
